This Privacy Policy explains what information Sequence Studio ("Sequence," "we," "us") collects through sequence.is (the "Site"), our memberships, including Editor Kickstart, and our software, including Cockpit, KeyRails, Forge, Brand Kit, Radial Blur, the Sequence Helper app, and our other tools (the "Software"), and how we use it. Sequence Studio is the data controller. See also our Terms of Service.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your email address when you sign up.
- Trial and license details: the email you use to start a trial or buy a license.
- Purchase details: what you bought, the price, your billing country, and your payment status. Stripe processes your card; we never see or store your full card number.
- Membership details: your profile, posts, comments, and messages in our communities.
- Messages: anything you send us through email or support.
Information our Software sends
Only the items in Section 5. Every editing tool and command, including Auto Podcut, Silence Cut, Retake Cut, Angle Picker, Keyframer, and Tracker, runs on your computer and talks only to Premiere Pro and the Sequence Helper app running locally on your machine. Tools that use transcripts read the transcript Premiere Pro has already created and don't send audio anywhere.
Information collected automatically on the Site
- Technical data such as your browser, device type, IP address, approximate location (country or region), and pages visited, collected through server logs and the cookies listed in Section 2.
- If you consent, ad measurement data collected by the Meta Pixel (Section 2).
2. Cookies and ad measurement
We use cookies that are needed for the Site to work. We may also use the Meta Pixel to measure how well our ads work, for example whether someone who saw an ad later started a trial or made a purchase. The Meta Pixel only loads if you accept it in our cookie banner. You can change your choice anytime through the Cookie Settings link in the Site footer.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Category | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Session and authentication cookies | Clerk | Keeps you signed in and secures your account | Strictly necessary | Session, or as set by Clerk |
| Checkout cookies | Stripe | Processes payments securely and prevents fraud (set on Stripe's checkout pages) | Strictly necessary | As set by Stripe |
| Consent cookie | Sequence | Remembers your cookie choices | Strictly necessary | 12 months |
| Meta Pixel (_fbp and related) | Meta | Measures ad performance and builds audiences for our ads | Advertising, only with consent | Up to 90 days, or as set by Meta |
When the Meta Pixel is active, Meta receives information such as the pages you visit, actions like starting a trial or making a purchase, your IP address, and browser details. Meta may combine this with information it already has about you under Meta's Privacy Policy.
3. How we use information
- To provide the Software and Memberships, activate and verify licenses, and run trials.
- To process payments, subscriptions, memberships, and refunds.
- To prevent fraud, piracy, trial abuse, and license sharing, and to check eligibility for regional pricing.
- To send account, license, trial, and purchase emails, for example when your trial is about to end.
- To send marketing emails, such as product news and tips, if you signed up for them or started a trial. You can unsubscribe from every marketing email.
- With your consent, to measure and improve our ads.
- To run our communities and enforce community rules.
- To provide support, fix bugs, and improve our services, including using aggregated or de-identified data.
- To comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations and enforce our Terms.
Legal bases (EU, UK, and similar laws): performance of a contract (providing what you asked for), legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, and improving our services), consent (advertising cookies and marketing where required), and legal obligation (tax records).
4. Who we share information with
We don't sell your personal information for money. We share it with service providers that help us run the business, under contracts that limit how they use it:
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Stripe | Payments, subscriptions, and fraud prevention |
| Clerk | Account sign-in and authentication |
| Keyforge | License key and trial management |
| Brevo | Transactional and marketing email |
| Our community platform | Hosting Editor Kickstart and its content |
| Our hosting provider | Hosting the Site and our servers |
| Meta | Ad measurement, only if you consent |
| Contractors | Development and support, under confidentiality obligations |
If you consent to the Meta Pixel, some U.S. state laws treat that as "sharing" personal information for targeted advertising. You can opt out anytime through Cookie Settings, and we treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal from your browser as an opt-out.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or users' safety, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.
5. What our Software sends online
| Feature | Connects to | What's sent |
|---|---|---|
| Licensing and trials | Keyforge (api.keyforge.dev) and our server (api.sequence.is) | License key, trial email, device identifier, Software version, and your IP address |
| Update check (Cockpit) | GitHub | A request asking whether a new version exists; GitHub sees your IP address |
| Stock tool | Our server, then Pexels, Pixabay, Unsplash, Giphy, and Vimeo | Search terms go through our server. Previews and downloads load directly from those providers, which see your IP address under their own privacy policies |
| Docs and feedback links | Your web browser | Nothing from the Software; the link simply opens in your browser |
The device identifier is generated from your computer and used only to limit trials to one per device and enforce license device limits. The Sequence Helper app communicates with the plugins only on your own computer (localhost) and doesn't connect to the internet except for licensing.
6. Data retention
- Account and license records: while your account or license is active, and for up to 3 years after, to handle reactivations, disputes, and fraud prevention.
- Device identifiers for trials: as long as needed to prevent repeat trials.
- Stock search terms: used only to return results and not linked to a profile of you. They may appear temporarily in our server's standard request logs, kept only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting.
- Purchase and tax records: as long as tax and accounting law requires (typically 7 years).
- Community posts: while your membership is active or until you delete them; we may remove them after your membership ends.
- Support messages: up to 3 years.
- Marketing contacts: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encrypted connections and access controls. No system is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your information, we'll notify you as required by law.
8. International transfers
We're based in the United States, and our service providers may process data in the U.S. and other countries. Where required, we rely on safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers from the EU, UK, and other regions.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR, UK GDPR, California and other U.S. state laws, Brazil's LGPD, and India's DPDP Act), you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you and get a copy.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your information, subject to records we must keep by law.
- Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent, including for advertising cookies.
- Opt out of targeted advertising and marketing emails at any time.
- Complain to your local data protection authority.
To use any of these rights, email team@sequence.is. We'll respond within 30 days and won't treat you differently for exercising them. We may need to verify your identity first.
10. Children
Our Site, Software, and Memberships aren't directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we'll update the date above and notify you by email or on the Site before it takes effect.
