Terms of Service

Last updated:

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Sequence Studio ("Sequence," "we," "us"). They govern your use of sequence.is and its subdomains (the "Site"), your Sequence account, our memberships and communities, including Editor Kickstart (the "Memberships"), and all software we sell or give away, including Cockpit, KeyRails, Forge, Brand Kit, Radial Blur, the Sequence Helper app, and any future plugins, extensions, presets, templates, or tools (the "Software"). Section 2 is the license for the Software.

By creating an account, starting a trial, buying or downloading Software, joining a Membership, or using the Site, you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Refund Policy. If you don't agree, don't use them.

1. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 16 years old, or the age of majority where you live if higher, to create an account, buy Software, or join a Membership. If you use our services for a business, you confirm you can bind that business to these Terms.

You're responsible for keeping your login and license keys secure and for everything done under your account. Tell us at team@sequence.is if you think your account or key has been compromised.

2. Software license

Software is licensed, not sold. When you start a trial, buy a license, or download free Software, Sequence grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use it, subject to these Terms.

  • Who: one individual person. A license can't be shared among a team, a company, or friends. Teams need one license per person.
  • Devices: you may activate the Software on up to 2 computers you personally use. To move to a new computer, deactivate an old one or contact team@sequence.is.
  • Commercial use: you may use the Software on paid client work and commercial projects.
  • Duration: a trial license lasts for its trial period, a subscription license lasts while your subscription is active, and a Lifetime license lasts as described in Section 4.

Restrictions. You may not, and may not help anyone else:

  • Share, sell, rent, lend, sublicense, or publicly post the Software or a license key.
  • Activate a license on more devices than allowed, or let other people use your activations.
  • Bypass, disable, or tamper with license checks, trial limits, device identification, or other protections.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or create derivative works from the Software, except to the extent applicable law expressly permits this despite this restriction.
  • Copy the Software's code, design, or features to build a competing product.
  • Remove or change any copyright or ownership notices.

Activation and license checks. The Software uses license keys and device identification to activate and confirm your license is valid. This requires an internet connection at activation and periodically afterward, and the Software may stop working if it can't verify your license for an extended period. Our Privacy Policy explains exactly what the Software sends online.

Updates. We may release updates that fix bugs, add or remove features, or keep the Software compatible with third-party apps. Updates are included while your license is active. We may change or remove features over time and aren't obligated to release any particular update.

Free Software. Free Software, such as Radial Blur, is covered by this same license. You may use it freely, but you may not redistribute, resell, or rehost it.

Third-party components. The Software may include open-source components licensed under their own terms, which are listed in the Software or available on request. Those terms apply to those components only.

3. Free trials

Some Software offers a free trial (currently 14 days, no card required). Trials are limited to one per person and one per device. We may end or refuse a trial if we see repeat trials, fake emails, device spoofing, or other abuse. When a trial ends, the Software stops working until you buy a license.

4. Purchases, subscriptions, and pricing

Payments. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. Prices are shown at checkout, and you're responsible for any taxes that apply.

Lifetime licenses. A "Lifetime" license is a one-time purchase that gives you access to the Software for as long as we continue to offer and support that product, including updates we release for it. It does not mean forever, and it does not include new, separately sold products. If we discontinue a product, the last version you received will keep working as long as it remains compatible with your software, but we won't be obligated to keep updating or supporting it.

Subscriptions and Memberships. Subscriptions and Memberships renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price until you cancel. You can cancel anytime, and you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for. We'll give you at least 14 days' notice by email before a price increase takes effect, so you can cancel first.

Regional pricing. We may offer lower prices in some countries. Regional prices are only for customers who actually live in those countries. Using a VPN, false billing details, or similar methods to get a regional price is a violation of these Terms, and we may revoke the license or Membership or charge the difference.

Refunds. Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy.

5. Memberships and communities

This section applies to Editor Kickstart, any future Memberships, and free community spaces we run, such as our Discord.

Access. A Membership gives you access to its community, courses, resources, and other features for as long as it's active. Communities may be hosted on our own platform or a third-party one, and we may change the platform, features, or content over time.

Community rules. Be respectful. Don't harass, threaten, or discriminate against anyone; post spam or unsolicited promotion; share other people's private information; or post pirated, illegal, or sexually explicit content. We may remove posts and suspend or remove members who break these rules. Serious or repeated violations may end your Membership without a refund.

Course and resource content. Courses, templates, presets, and other materials are for your personal learning and use. You may use templates, presets, and assets in your own and client projects. You may not resell, redistribute, publicly post, or share them, or share your Membership login with anyone.

What you post. You keep ownership of what you post. You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute it within the community so the community works. You're responsible for what you post and confirm you have the right to post it.

Job listings and member deals. Job listings and opportunities are posted by members and third parties. We don't vet every listing, employer, or editor, and we aren't a party to any agreement you make with them. You're responsible for your own deals, payments, and contracts.

6. Third-party software

Our Software works with third-party software such as Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. Sequence is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Adobe. Adobe and other vendors can change their software at any time, and those changes may temporarily or permanently break features. We'll make reasonable efforts to fix compatibility issues, but we can't guarantee the Software will work with every version of third-party software. You're responsible for having a valid license for any third-party software you use.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Site, Software, or Memberships to break the law or infringe anyone's rights, or to attack, overload, scrape, or try to gain unauthorized access to the Site, our servers, or other users' accounts.

8. Your content

Your projects, footage, and other content stay yours. We don't claim ownership of anything you create with the Software. If you send us feedback or feature ideas, we can use them freely without owing you anything.

9. Our intellectual property

The Site, the Software, Membership content, and the Sequence, Cockpit, Editor Kickstart, and related names and logos belong to Sequence Studio. Except for the licenses we grant you in these Terms, you get no rights to them.

10. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your account, revoke a license, or end a Membership if you materially break these Terms, including through piracy, key sharing, trial abuse, fraud, or chargebacks on legitimate charges. Where reasonable, we'll warn you first. When a license ends, you must stop using and uninstall the Software. You can stop using our services and delete your account at any time. Sections 8, 9, and 11 to 15 survive termination.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

The Site, Software, and Memberships are provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We don't promise the Software will be error-free, uninterrupted, or compatible with every system. Always keep backups of your projects; we're not responsible for lost or corrupted project files.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Sequence and its owners, contractors, and partners won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, projects, or goodwill, even if we were told they were possible.

Our total liability for any claim relating to the Site, Software, Memberships, or these Terms is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) $100 USD.

Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.

13. Indemnification

You agree to defend and indemnify Sequence and its owners, contractors, and partners against claims, damages, and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Site, Software, or Memberships, your content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of anyone else's rights.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in King County, Washington, and you consent to their jurisdiction. Either of us may still bring a claim in small claims court if it qualifies. Before filing anything, please email team@sequence.is so we can try to fix it informally first.

15. General

We may update these Terms. If we make a material change, we'll update the date above and notify you by email or on the Site before it takes effect. Continuing to use our services after that means you accept the new Terms. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. These Terms, together with the documents linked above, are the entire agreement between you and us. You can't transfer them without our consent; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
